Schools & FERPA

When a school or district creates an Accrue ABA workspace, the school district remains the owner of the education records entered by its staff. Accrue ABA processes those records on the school's behalf and only for the purpose of delivering the service.

Accrue ABA acts as a school official under FERPA. We use student information only for the educational interests of the school or district, we do not use it for advertising or behavioral profiling, and we do not disclose it to third parties except as necessary to operate the service or as required by law.

Illinois public schools and districts that use Accrue ABA are also covered by SOPPA. We provide a SOPPA Data Privacy Agreement, parent-rights request tracking, breach notification workflows, and annual subprocessor disclosures. Details are on our SOPPA page.

Parents and eligible students exercise their FERPA and SOPPA rights — including the right to inspect, request a copy of, request correction of, or request deletion of education records — through the school or district that maintains the record. Accrue ABA provides export, correction, and deletion tools to help schools respond to those requests.

Schools can configure minimal-identifier mode so that full names, dates of birth, and diagnosis fields are hidden across the workspace. Staff can work with initials and program data only. See our Security & Compliance page for details.
